Seems like an old car !? Cool textures and high impact - not sure about the *exact* relevance but I don't care - it's part of a whole (I don't know in english but in french it's called a "synecdoque") and you have very good eye !!

c what you're getting at...but would like to see more door..

Awesome decay and dirt and grime. I like the composition, with the handle in the upper right, and the color shifts two thirds down.

Thanks! This is the right side door of an old pick up truck I found parked down by the Santa Barbara harbor.

My response #45 in the "Rust" theme is also an image created from this same truck.

@JIMJIM - I appreciate your observation that this is not a "whole" door. I feel like images that strongly "imply" doors or windows are relevant,as well as images that show "complete" doors and windows. So I wanted to submit one in that category. Thanks for teaching me the French word for this concept.

@eggplant - I think you mean upper "left"? The color shift occurred due to the shape of the door, and nearly overhead lighting conditions in the early afternoon. I specifically placed the color break 2/3rds down the frame and I am absolutely thrilled that you noticed that ;)

The design of this shot reminds me of something that might catch Jarrett Gorin's eye, but he post-processing does not. George posted a side view of a yellow car that got featured, but I think he likes pristine things. I like this image, although I wouldn't think to take this kind of photo. I won't argue the merits of its relevance. I've stared at it long enough to give it high marks because it has definitely held my attention.

JIMJIM & Jarrett...in English it's spelled synechdoche and carries the same meaning.

King said 520 days ago:

Jarrett...by design, I meant the compositional elements you were discussing with eggplant. Well done.

gorin-images said 519 days ago:

Thanks King. The fact that you equate this to "design" is flattering. I guess in a way, this sort of image does represent design, although really you have to come up with a design by eliminating parts of the context that were there in the original scene (through in-the-lens composition and afterwards through some selective cropping).

Jarrett, I know this is your image and given that I am even more critical of your work than others, you get a 25 from me. I'm sure that relevance may be killing you on this one, but for me the image hits the relevance bullseye. This is such an interesting and visually rich image with the texture of the door handle and the drips of paint from age and exposure. Typical Gorin exact composition is another element of the image that makes it pop.

Featured or not, this is a striking image.

King said 519 days ago:

Jarrett,
One of the best designers I've worked with told me her method: move the elements with which you are working until they make a pleasing pattern; or move yourself or your camera around the scene until the elements make a pleasing pattern. In other words, look at what is in front of you and arrange things until they are pleasing to you. If they are pleasing to others as well, then you have hit on something. That's what you, Jarrett Gorin, do.

King said 519 days ago:

...and congratulations!

gorin-images said 519 days ago:

I was not sure if this would do well enough on relevance to get featured. Thanks all!!

JIMJIM said 519 days ago:
