Idea is good, but the execution lacks a bit to move me.

Would love to hear more about your thoughts on what is lacking in execution. I captured a moment in a really dark museum using iso 1600. Could it be the grain that is lacking in execution? I actually like the grain as it adds, in my opinion, to the shot. I'm just trying to learn and Susanne's comment left me wondering what it is that is lacking.
What I like about this photo is that the kid is so out of his element - the supposed "wild". If you remove him and all other signs that it is a museum, would it have been more "realistic"? The photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto has done work that is similiar in nature in that he shot in a museum, removed all signs that it is a display at a museum, giving the viewer of sense of "realism". I'm somewhat doing the opposite by having the kid there.
Would love to hear more so I can learn from my mistakes in execution. Thank you!
