Not far: this is a "marae", a place for the old cults, before the Europeans bring their religion To Tahiti and destroy the idols (London Missionary Society, 1797). The ancient gods have been forgotten, and it's difficult to say it what way Tahitians relate to them nowadays. I was surprised to discover that some people are still making offerings...
