I gave you 5 on composition...it is just perfect...

Almost like two different images.

Thanks for the comments. Yes this was 3 images combined to get the patterns in the clouds and still retain detail in the foreground.
We had got up especially early this morning to drive to TO to see if we could get a good shot of the city as the sun came up - in the car by 5am. Needless to say, the sunrise was less than spectacular and the beach that started out OK turned into this disgusting mixture of sand and trash - needles and all (had to be careful getting down low for this shot).
That's the small story, the larger one is what we seem capable of doing to our surroundings.

The story of rampant overpopulation, no? The sky feels a bit heavily worked, though it certainly adds to the mood. A powerful image.

I guess this is headed for the front page soon. What a shameful mess. Well done, high marks.

This would have fit very well in the Ugly/Beautiful theme. Nice juxtaposition of man made objects. The processing and that sky are outstanding.

@George/King/kadenajack - many thanks for the comments.
The sky was processed so that it fit the overall message and complemented the lower part of the shot but I know it may not be to everyone's taste :)
@Lemmingstone - yes, this was 3 shots at -1,0,+1 exposures and processed with Photomatix before CS2.
Marks are in - close but no cigar :)

What a very sad shot of Toronto. Great shot, but, I feel compelled to say, not a good representation of the city, which is comparatively a very clean one. You should send this to one of the papers - it works well in the current debate there over developing the waterfront.

I agree Craig, Toronto actually does pretty well. It was intended more as a general statement on how poorly we sometimes treat our planet.

Congrats on the feature Steve. Well deserved ;-)
King said 476 days ago:
Well, at last, for pity's sake!
Congratulations, Steve.

Thanks Brant/King - this one just squeaked in :)

Squeaking in is one of my specialties. Featured is a dichotomous variable. An image is featured or it's not.
This one is Featured!

Very nicely done. Fantastic sky and colouring. HDR? good marks from me. Sad thing is that we know what the story here is...Naughty humans.
