I like this a lot. I think I would like it more if you cropped a bit off the top to remove the slightly distracting tables in the background. That said, high marks from me.

I guess the big question is who's the letter to?

There are two stories:
1. I was writing a letter to a friend in Australia
2. I was writing it whilst visiting a city called Bristol. I took a moment to gather my thoughts and sup my coffee and thought that this image would document a genuine moment, so, I leaned back with my DSLR (always at my side) and took a shot.
To conclude, the shot wasn't contrived and shot as I meant it.

mooch, you still write letters? I can't remember the last time I put pen to paper and stuck it in an envelope to mail. Is this a very special friend, or just one that isn't connected to the net?
Oh, and one more question, what's in the box? I wondered that when I was rating this shot.

I have a love of fine fountain pens and what better way to utilise such craftsmanship than by writing a letter. I try to write letters as often as possible but I tend to ramble and they at times trail off, never to be delvidered. The frined, is just that, a friend and they have all of the technological pharaphenalia that you would expect of today's society. For me a letter carries far more weight. It is tangible and can be cherished for years to come.
The box contains my bottle of ink.

I think this is rather well done. I think cropping out a bit from the top would help, because the scene is pretty clear without seeing the coffee cups on the other table. I would go pushing things around on the table, getting just the right relationships. I don't you've done much of that (nor is it necessary--that's just what I am inclined to do), but the composition works for me. High marks, in general.
