the story behind this shot is listed below (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevie_Ray_Vaughan )
it's photoshopped a little. nothing happened to the guitar :-)
-------------------------
On August 25 and 26, 1990, Vaughan and Double Trouble played shows at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Wisconsin. At the end of the show, Eric Clapton introduced Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, and Jimmie Vaughan, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan. All of the musicians played a 15-minute rendition of "Sweet Home Chicago". After the song ended, all the guitarists hugged up and went backstage.
Double Trouble drummer, Chris Layton, recalls his last conversation with Vaughan backstage. He then remembers when Vaughan said he had to call his girlfriend, Janna Lapidus, back in Chicago. He headed out the door to the helicopters.
The musicians expected a long bus ride back to Chicago. Vaughan was informed that three seats were open on one of the helicopters returning to Chicago with Clapton's crew, enough for Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan, and Jimmie Vaughan's wife Connie. It turned out there was only one seat left, which Stevie Ray Vaughan requested from his brother, who obliged. Taking off into deep fog, the helicopter crashed moments later into a ski slope on the side of a hill within the Alpine Valley Resort. Vaughan, the pilot, and two members of Clapton's crew died on impact. No one realized that the crash had occurred until the helicopter failed to arrive in Chicago, and the wreckage was only found with the help of its locator beacon. The main cause of the crash was believed to be pilot error. The next morning Stevie Ray Vaughan's brother Jimmie and good friend Eric Clapton were called to identify the bodies.
The media initially reported that Vaughan and his band had been killed in the crash. Chris Layton saw this on the news and had security let him into Vaughan's motel room. Layton saw that the bed was made and the clock radio was playing the Eagles' song, "Peaceful, Easy Feeling", which includes the lyrics "I may never see you again". Layton and Shannon then called their families to let them know they were okay.
Stevie Ray Vaughan is interred in the Laurel Land Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.

Evidence of an axe murderer

Hi, Vernon, nice to see this shot again. It is still deep and rich and beautiful. I keep seeing the damage as a natural and intended part of the design of the guitar--silly me. You've made it look like a piece of art.
High marks, of course, even though I'm doing my best to find fault.
King said 1255 days ago:
So the guitar isn't burned/melted?
VernonTrent said 1255 days ago:
this should show (in an artistic way) the crash of the helicopter and the death of stevie ray (the fading lights on the name to the right)
the guitar is ok. no damage. the damage is 100% photoshop. transfered the structure of the stone shown here to the guitar

then adjusted the lights of the shot, painted some additional lights in photoshop, frame, resize, post :-)

Neat idea, Vernon, and well done. Thanks for the back story.

It's a Stevie Ray Vaughn guitar. OK, that get my interest right away. Looks like it's been burned maybe. This is where the photo starts having problems, because it's so dark right there, I have a hard time figuring out what is going on. I hope there's a good story posted already.
kadenajack said 1255 days ago:
I'm just not satisfied. I see what you were going for, and I guess you had me fooled pretty well, but now that I know it's all a photoshop exercise, I'm not happy at all with this image. Looks like the dark areas I alluded to in my first comment are where you were disguising your photoshop work.
Darn it, I was hoping for a great story about a Stevie Ray Vaughn guitar that was saved from the wreckage of the crash. Then since you happened to know someone in his crew, they gave it to you. You lovingly repaired it, except for this one area of the headstock, which you left as is to forever memorialize the artist and you've had it displayed in your home for all these years. That's the story I wanted to hear. I'm glad I at least got to write it, even if it is fiction.

@kadenajack
I also would like to have the "number one" :-)
VernonTrent said 1255 days ago:
but your story sounds perfect!!! :thumbs-up:
Lemmingstone said 1255 days ago:
If that guitar is damaged then it is perhaps one of the most tragic and sad images I have ever seen! SRV editions should be protected at all costs.
But it fits the theme very well. As soon as I opened the image I thought "wow. what happened there?"
Lemmingstone said 1255 days ago:
Great story. 100% photoshop hey? Then you should get extra marks. Well done.

Vernon Trent channeling the ghost of Jimi Hendrix? ;)
Heath said 1254 days ago:
Or maybe SRV. Great work Vernon.

I don't get this...who took the photo? Was it you, Vern? I tell you I'm beginning to build up a head of steam...if this is someone else's image...I tell you...I just might lose it! We've been through this before, haven't we King?! Hehe...I'm just kidding... And where's the guitar, in the Hall of Fame?

I know it would fit the topic but I would have liked to see the same photo without the phtotshop damage. The colours on the maple of the headstock and the reflections on the posts are awesome. Cool lighting.
