I like the overall concept here....definitely this is relevant to the theme.

I think this image suffers from over-sharpening though. There seem to be evident bright white sharpening halos on the weight itself, and the noise that is present in the background has been exaggerated into little white dots from sharpening.

Of course, I could be completely wrong, but when I have oversharpened images during post processing, it looks exactly like this....and that's the basis of my assumption about this image. It's a good image overall and I don't think it needs to be super-ultra-sharp to be effective. The forms and tones provide enough interest for me ;)

Compositionally, I think it's excellent, although it would be even stronger IMHO if there was a little more space beneath the tip of the thing holding the weights.
