this is a beautiful image, but the tones are so warm that it's hard to see as "decay"

I really like the composition and the warm lighting.

For me, the element I like best about this shot is the same element that also IMHO made it less relevant though: the freshly washed white clothes hanging out to dry.

I think of decay as something that occurs (or at least accelerates) when urban structures or spaces are no longer actively used by their human inhabitants. The fresh clodthing hanging out to dry makes me feel like this place...although clearly quite old...is still actively inhabited and cared for.

I still really enjoy this image though especially the clothes (as mentioned) and the tiny sliver of red bricks peeking through the chiped plaster.

gorin-images: thanks for taking your time to comment. I found it interesting that for you urban decay points to spaces that are abondoned. As we are in the urban context, decay, for me, is a detoriation that we (have to) live with, either in our neighbourhood or in the very space we call home. My photo shows a decayed house that is still inhabited, lived and I think the laundry makes a interesting contradiction with the decomposition of the structure.

Hey digitalpeace....I didn;t say this shot "isn't relevant"...in fact I find it to be quite relevant. But you are 100% correct when you say people's ideas of urban decay are different. After reading yours, all I can say is that I agree with you. I build urban spaces for a living, and I always find it remarkable just how fast they will deteriorate once they stop being actively cared for by humans so that is probably the explanation for my perception of quintessential urban decay. I beleive your perception is equally correct.

Oh yeah...and perhaps it isn't clear enough from my previous comment, but the "contradiction" of the freshly cleaned white laundry and the old beaten up building is my favorite element of this image.
