Beautiful colors and textures...simply love the wash on the line

mysixstring said 604 days ago:

I kind of wish that there was more of the close line included in the shot but this works well as it is.

kadenajack said 604 days ago:

Nice. Reminds me of some places I've seen in Europe. I bet the inside is immaculate.

pointnshoot said 604 days ago:

Like it very much. Great colors.

bridge said 604 days ago:

this is a beautiful image, but the tones are so warm that it's hard to see as "decay"

uncommondepth said 604 days ago:

I really like the lighting and old world feeling this image has. Signs of decay are evident.

Montage said 604 days ago:

The fresh washing on the line detracts from the decay impact a little for me.

ArneG said 604 days ago:

This seems like Italy?

digitalpeace said 604 days ago:

Thank you for your comments...

Arne: this is Lisboa, Portugal.

I really like the composition and the warm lighting.

For me, the element I like best about this shot is the same element that also IMHO made it less relevant though: the freshly washed white clothes hanging out to dry.

I think of decay as something that occurs (or at least accelerates) when urban structures or spaces are no longer actively used by their human inhabitants. The fresh clodthing hanging out to dry makes me feel like this place...although clearly quite old...is still actively inhabited and cared for.

I still really enjoy this image though especially the clothes (as mentioned) and the tiny sliver of red bricks peeking through the chiped plaster.

gorin-images: thanks for taking your time to comment. I found it interesting that for you urban decay points to spaces that are abondoned. As we are in the urban context, decay, for me, is a detoriation that we (have to) live with, either in our neighbourhood or in the very space we call home. My photo shows a decayed house that is still inhabited, lived and I think the laundry makes a interesting contradiction with the decomposition of the structure.

Hey digitalpeace....I didn;t say this shot "isn't relevant"...in fact I find it to be quite relevant. But you are 100% correct when you say people's ideas of urban decay are different. After reading yours, all I can say is that I agree with you. I build urban spaces for a living, and I always find it remarkable just how fast they will deteriorate once they stop being actively cared for by humans so that is probably the explanation for my perception of quintessential urban decay. I beleive your perception is equally correct.

Oh yeah...and perhaps it isn't clear enough from my previous comment, but the "contradiction" of the freshly cleaned white laundry and the old beaten up building is my favorite element of this image.

The urban decay is evident, a bit of brick showing thru the wall, what country is this? Great image!

digitalpeace said 603 days ago:

rocksunderwater: as I wrote above, this was taken in Portugal.

Ana said 603 days ago:

i see life, fresh laundry and bright colours (almost too contrasted?) but the building seems to be decaying.

Roger said 602 days ago:

Mellow and crumbling. I like it!

Fascinating. I really like your style. I don't have much to add to what has already been said, which I think amounts to an excellent critique.
