I wouldn't mind spending a few hours living like a cow. So relaxing. No responsibilities. But then again, you do end up as a steak so perhaps not.
As for the image, great idea. They do have a unique perspective. Perhaps a touch soft on the focus. At least it seems that way on my monitor :)

Switzerland?

cferroni said 444 days ago:

hehe, thanks.
@Lemmingstone - The idea was not as clever as that (i.e. the cow's perspective) rather this was taken with an 8mm circular fish eye and IS a rather unusual perspective...;-) - That, BTW, also explains the softness, it's one of the cheap Peleng 8mm.

@zulu - Ayrshire, West of Scotland...

I really like the feel of this and the rich saturation. Not sure about the unusual perspective part, but cool photo.

myke said 443 days ago:

Nice image. Not sure the perspective is all that unusual though?

gorin-images said 443 days ago:

I like this wide angle shot. The perspective seems pretty typical for a landscpae shot though, not that unusual.

jbloch said 443 days ago:

I take this as "just hanging out with the cows" perspective. From that idea I get the topic. Otherwise... it's just an average shot. If you we're down on the cows level... I think it would have made it great for the topic.

beckn32 said 443 days ago:

Relevance is low for me since I see nothing unusual about your perspective, but this is a great image otherwise. I love the green pasture and leisurely cows.

cferroni said 443 days ago:

Thanks all for the kind words. Being a photo-meme owner myself I have a pet peeve for 'posting for the sake of posting'...hence this 'defence' of the unusualness of the perspective in this shot ;-)
To put this in context I was about 1ft from the front cow's nose when I took this. Here's a crop of the left hand portion of the picture: http://imagesby.me.uk/images/_MG_8406.jpg now, if that for you is a normal perspective then I want some of whatever you take...;-)

beautiful photograph.... well done. But not very different in terms of looking at cows.

zulu said 442 days ago:

Ah ok, then Scotland looks like by me in switzerland ;)
And I forgot: its a nice wideangle pic!

I guess this doesn't fit the theme all that well, but I like the image enough to comment. This is a pleasant pastoral scene made more effective by the use of a wide angle lens. My hunch is that the photographer is attached to the wide view and to the stand of trees on the left. I, on the other hand, am completely unattached from the ass-on view of the clumb of cows on the left and that blue blotch. I would have cloned out those cows and the blue blotch or simply crop out the trees and the cows--but I think the trees contribute to the composition.

What are the photographer's thoughts and intentions in submitting this photo in this theme?

King said 440 days ago:

Now, Carlo, although I appreciate your description and agree, now, about the unusual 8mm (on what format camera?) perspective, you had to be more than one foot from the foreground cow's head. I think you exaggerate. ;>)

cferroni said 440 days ago:

Thanks for taking the time King (fab shots you've posted BTW!). SO, yes, I was indeed using a hyperbole when stating the distance to be 1 foot. It was indeed more, but not by far, and certainly less then the 'perspective' would suggest.

As for the relevance I guess I have to put this down to my less than native use of the English language.

Being this a photography site I automatically interpreted 'perspective' in the visual sense of the word, rather than the cognitive one:
Visual:
The way in which objects appear to the eye based on their spatial attributes, or their dimensions and the position of the eye relative to the objects.

Cognitive:
The choice of a context or a reference (or the result of this choice) from which to sense, categorize, measure or codify experience.

This is probably due to the fact that in my first language, Italian, perspective is more often used in the visual context, although indeed it can be used in the cognitive sense as well.

Hope this explains, well, it does to me anyway...;-)

Carlo,
You share the same language perplexity that another member shared. Rate and comment on this unfeatured photo and scoll down to see some examples of what I think are examples of good interpretations of this theme.

Thanks for explaining. :>)

King said 440 days ago:

Carlo,
Here, I'll make it easy for you:

To me, "unusual perspective" means taking a photograph by putting the camera in a position where cameras are not commonly put--not just an extreme angle of view. Some of the photos posted so far that I think are good representations of "Unusual Perspective":

#98 because cameras are not commonly in the refrigerator
#96 because cameras are not commonly left in the sand
#93 because cameras are not commonly inside a girl's shirt
#83 because cameras are not commonly at the top of the shower stall
#77 because cameras are not commonly at the bottom of irrigation ditches
#54 because it is difficult to determine the relationship between camera and subject
#53 because the camera is looking through the target at the shooter
#20 because cameras are not commonly under water
#2 because cameras are not commonly buried in the earth with carrots.

Hope this helps!

cferroni said 440 days ago:

Thanks for the help King...;-)

What you exemplify so well above is what I was referring to as the *cognitive* meaning of 'perspective'. In simple terms I believe that interpretation can be summed up as 'point of view'.

Whereas the VISUAL meaning of perspective is quite different.

It must be that the cognitive/'point of view' meaning is by far the most common in English, or at least in American English, since nobody thought of qualifying the theme in the description.

Interesting anyway.

On my meme, macroday.com, we posted a 'Stationery' theme, you should have seen the number of very still things... ;-)

King said 440 days ago:

Carlo...LOL! Stationery. There's a joke in English...see if you understand:

A man walks into an office supply store, looking for some high-quality writing materials. A woman walks up to him and asks, "May I help you, sir?"

He asks her, "Do you keep stationery?"

She blushes, then replies, "I do until the last possible second and then I just go crazy!"
