awesome! deserves a feature!

pursang said 462 days ago:

Thank you Tanja, this is one of my favorite images from their performance.

Tanja said 462 days ago:

where you pretty close?

pursang said 462 days ago:

I was onstage. Stage left.

Mini-Amateur said 462 days ago:

Nice shot! Great perspective. I like the B&W and how the light falls.

Tanja said 462 days ago:

Pursang, just looked alittle at your site! great stuff! I love portaits! my favorite! really would like to capture more like you have! will def. keep checking back!

pursang said 462 days ago:

Tanja, thank you! I don't often find people that enjoy portraiture as much as I do. You may want to search under Jodi Cobb in Google. She's my personal hero when it comes to candid portraiture. Her work takes my breath away and I think you'll enjoy her art.

Ana said 462 days ago:

This is a well done shot, but not entirely a new view of a couple dancing. I do like the focus on the hands.

Tanja said 462 days ago:

Pursang - must say she has really been to places..one of my goals too! as so to portaits i really like the feeling of your shots much more. Can't describe it. Likewise one of my favorite blogs to visit is www.learningtosee.org . Much smaller, and not as experienced, but it's that same feeling! :)

bioLarzen said 462 days ago:

Oh, yes! Awesome! The perspective, the details on front, the softness of the lady's face...

25.

bioLarzen said 462 days ago:

Of course, who else. To be honest it came as no surprise, your trademark hue...

Staged or caught?

philippe said 462 days ago:

I think I can guess who made this. Classy!

pursang said 462 days ago:

bio, thank you. It's both staged and caught depending on how you look at it. The real professional photographer was there the day before shooting publicity shots while the dancers posed. All of my images were taken during live performances, so if you consider 'staged' as in I was on and off stage as they danced for the audience the images are 'staged.'

But in my mind this was more like what I normally do. Capture moments where people are going about their lives. And for these dancers and the others I photographed, dance IS their life. And we're all lucky they do what they do. Gorgeous movement and tango is SUCH an intense and passionate dance!

pursang said 462 days ago:

philippe, I'm *sure* you thought this was King's work!

bioLarzen said 462 days ago:

pursang,

you know I'm a fan of yours (the least to say), so I might be partial, but I must agree with Tanja: I looked at a lot of Jodi Cobb's portraits and came to the conclusion that I like yours more. And I'm positive I'd feel the same if I hadn't seen any of your works before. Don't get me wrong, she is flawless, still...

There are many thngs about this photo that are truly great - except for me the relevance is shy. Love the photo !

George said 462 days ago:

Delightful. Absolutely delightful.

mooch said 462 days ago:

Very clean and a great DoF

Hummingbird said 462 days ago:

I love this, especially how the white of his cuffs draws my eye.

pursang said 462 days ago:

Tanja and bio, Um, I'm not sure what to say. I certainly appreciate how you feel about my images, thank you.

Tanja, I briefly looked at the images at learningtosee.org. Thank you for referring me to that site. The image that moved me the most is this one:
http://www.learningtosee.org/gallery.php?img=1151875599

For me it exudes an adult emotion that is emanating from someone so young. A moving and thought provoking image.

bio, I always appreciate your compliments and critiques of my work.

ArneG, thanks too for your perspective on my 'perspective.' As with all relevance, it's all in the eye of the beholder which is the great thing about themes and all art in general.

ArneG said 462 days ago:

Yeah - ditto

bioLarzen said 462 days ago:

Mark,

then to me it's definitely caught and not staged. I thought it might be staged because I see no motion blur at all and it made me think they might be posing and not dancing. But, alas, not, only a perfect choice of shutter speed :D

bioLarzen said 462 days ago:

Tanja,
I thank you too for the link. It's indeed worth the time.

dcreighton said 462 days ago:

I very much like the selective focus and the moment as combined this image tells a story. Very nice.

mtmartini said 462 days ago:

Mark this is the type of stunning image that I have come to expect from you, wonderful. Too bad i couldn't have rated it.

@dcreighton - nice to see you have dropped in Dan, I hope you will stick around for a while.

King said 461 days ago:

This is a *great* dance photograph.

bioLarzen said 458 days ago:

King,
let me get this straight: when you put an asterisk in front of and after a word (just like this *great* here) you mean to express extra stress on the word? Somehow it makes me think it should be taken as exactly the opposite of what the word means though i know it's not what you use it for :)

King said 458 days ago:

bio...the asterisks are presumed to carry the same weight as if the enclosed word were in bold face or in italics. When I type the same sentence in Microsoft Word, the asterisks are removed and "great" appears in bold face (without quotes).
