The composition is strong enough, and the subject is entirely entertaining. The photo looks like it would benefit from a boost in contrast and a bit of sharpening.

That one eyeball has a freakish look about it, possibly ugly but more crazed than anything. To me the subjects are a bit small in the frame to get the full impact, and the light feels harsh (a midday-ish shot?) Must have been quite a sight to see in person.

You're right, it does need some sharpening. I just discovered that the action I use to prepare images for WeeklyShot had a glaring omission--it was missing the Unsharp Mask step (I never sharpen my master files). I've fixed it now; thanks for making me look at my own work. I should have looked at the image before uploading it.
