Nice abstract, those lashes are crazy.

This seems more an ugly photo of an undeniably beautiful thing to me.

Theme aside, this image has potential. I think it would be stronger if it were composed with the eye in the upper right and with softer lighting.

As an abstract this is quite compelling. I'm ambivalent on relevance. The notion that this is an undeniably ugly subject on the one hand I don't agree with because I don't find elephants ugly. But I think I'm confusing the whole creature with this particular view of it. This particular view, I suppose, is somewhat ugly...and yet by presenting it with the eye closed you've given it a strong sense of the beauty that's inherent in the creature. I might have framed it a bit differently. Not necessarily with the eye in a "rule of thirds" location, but perhaps not quite so bang in the center. Seems like it could use some more contrast, or perhaps it's coming off a bit overexposed to me. Or maybe the light's a bit strong. At any rate, a great submission for this theme.
