This is the first image I'm rating for the theme, and it's tough. I suspect "ugly beautiful" is gonna be all over the map...and therefore should be interesting.

The theme calls for "beautiful photos of undeniably ugly things." So what about this shot? Is this a beautiful photo of someone who is undeniably ugly? I'd say no. It might be an ugly photo of someone who's undeniably beautiful...but it's hard to say cause that's quite the expression. Something tells me you're thinking more along the lines of an "ugly photo of someone who's undeniably beautiful," in which case it bombs on relevance, strictly speaking and if my assumption is correct.

At any rate...I like the shot. I like the framing. The expression. The lighting. The mystery. It all compels me to look longer. I'm giving 5s on everything but relevance which I'm giving a 3.

Love it... seems very "Janis" to me... but wish I could see the raw image

I really like this image, it's intriguing. I love the four distinct bands of light/dark/light/dark.

The only downside for me, is the right hand side of the face as you are looking at it is blown out slightly too much, but still it's a really good effort.

I don't really know what to think about this. I like and hate it at the same time. I like the framing and dark right hand side, I don't really like the lighting/shading as it's a little too harsh for me. Great idea though

Hmmm...this looks more like beautiful ugly! Interesting shot. Not sure what the black framing is about though.

When making your masks watch out that you don't get halo's as you have around the hair.

I find the left lower side of her face a tiny bit over-exposed as it distracts me. Boy, is she really ugly pulling that face. I must say she even spooks me a little bit. Otherwise rather effective, as well as disturbing overall.

As for beauty... It will be in the eye of the beholder. ;)

Obviouslt generating interest but just plain ugly for me. The contortion of the face seems to reinforce this feeling. As images go, it is rather uncomfortable to view which I feel should be congratulated, just for pure impact. This really is, <i> the </i> 'Blair Witch'

The disheveled hair and curled lips are menacing, though you can tell she is a pretty girl when unprovoked. Strong theme pic to me.
