Lovely. High marks, in general. I hope you won't be offended by the following remarks, which are intended for a general audience and are not directed specifically at the photographer or this image.

<DOF SOAPBOX> If you know me, you know that one of my favorite gripes is the use of very shallow depth of field for effect--which I call a gimmick. Control of depth of field is a great photographic tool that allows the photographer to define the important parts of the image and to separate that important part from the background; or to create apparent sharpness throughout the image where lack of focus would be undesirable; or anywhere in between. The "Depth of focus preview button" is there for a reason. Professional photographers go to great effort to determine exactly what they want to appear sharp (or what needs to look sharp) then define the best combination of focal point, f-stop and shutter speed to provide the desired effect.

So, for the many lovely WeeklyShot images such as this, what I want to know is whether any such decisions were made. Why is the focus immediately behind the twisted around the twig instead of directly on it? Why not stop down one or two stops to carry sharpness all along the twisted vine? Was it that windy and dark? Didn't have or want to use a tripod? This wasn't an important photo at the time it was taken?

Many W.S. photographers have "the eye" and lord knows some have equipment that I couldn't have afforded when I was billing my time at $2,000 a day plus expenses in the late 70's. Why not take it to the next level and learn how to use those cameras and the control over depth of field made possible by those great cameras and lenses?

I was going to look through my archives for something like this but didn't get around to it. Great colours and relevance.

Well done all around! Love the contrasting colors too.

Wonderful colours. DOF may be a little too shallow, but still a very effective shot.
