Hummingbird is going to be mad. You beat her to the rotini shot. Nice job with it though. 5's.

oh just had thoughs for dinner! yum yum!

Ana said 361 days ago:

Too bad about the highlights on the noodle, and the white spots on the base. But otherwise, it's very relevant.

mtmartini said 361 days ago:

Great idea!

mtmartini said 361 days ago:

Craig, you are having an amber week I see. :-)

Hummingbird said 361 days ago:

I had the same idea, although I don't think I could have executed it as well as you did.

Beautiful capture. The vividness of the pasta along with the stark black background make this look appropriate for a classy food magazine. Good job!

A really well composed image with lots of impact for such simplicity.

Very cool indeed. I've been trying to figure out what the noodle is sitting on. It brings to mind a slug which then makes me think of the noodle as a slimmy animal.

CraigMartin said 360 days ago:

Thanks for all the comments everyone. As for what it is sitting on, it is a black lacquer bento box lid, which has become a stadard prop for my macro shots.

I shot it right out of the pot, so it was wet and steaming, which is why it has the white halo around the base, vague steam off the top, and water drops around it. I couldn't get a high enough shutter speed to get a crisp shot of the steam. But while Ana didn't like the hightlights, I wanted it to look hot and still wet.

mtmartini said 360 days ago:

congrats Craig.

Ana said 360 days ago:

I like the hightlights that go down the middle of the noodle, because they do make the noodle look wet....but the edges of the noodle have that white/white line seem to be a false highlight. Have no fear..I gave your shot almost a perfect score, despite that. :)
