Wonderful shot and what a neat lamp shade.

The enlargement is so much better than the thumbnail that it's a pleasant surprise. Was this shot in a lamp store? I would have pulled off the sticker. Nice work. High marks.

CraigMartin said 361 days ago:

Thanks for the comments. It was shot this last weekend in the Modern Art and Design store next to the Moma in New York City. So I couldn't quite pull off the sticker, as irritating as it is there ;-). I considred cloning it out, but it just seemed like too much bother.

Never seen a shade like that, nice.
Blizzard?

mysight said 361 days ago:

DOH!! sorry there Craig.

Lange said 361 days ago:

I really like this shade!!! I think it is a rare and very good choice for "twisted". I like the photograph as well, but wonder if it is a bit too centered (the rule-of-nines concept, etc...). I like the amber tone of the image, but would appreciate a bit more detail of the shade itself.

King said 361 days ago:

Craig,
I was just practicing my forensic photography appreciation skills. The sticker isn't a big deal.

CraigMartin said 361 days ago:

@mysight - I'll take a comparison to Blizzard any day!

@Lange, thanks! As for the centering, I thought about it, but felt that I needed to get as close a shot as possible to really highlight the pattern of the shade.

@King - no, it bugged me too, so you were right to mention it ;-) Glad to see you back by the way.

I adhere to the rule of 27's in most cases. In extreme cases, the rule of 81's.

mtmartini said 361 days ago:

See King, I told you that you were missed!

Lange said 361 days ago:

<grin> King, as I am not overly knowledge of the "technical" aspects of what is going to constitute good "art" in photography yet, I end up using some of the terms I hear bantered about here... including rule of nines. I am presuming the rule of 27s and 81s are simply for more microscopic detail (again, a grin).

I am used to taking my photographs centered, but have learned through others here how I can sometimes improve my photographs by not doing so. As I initially learned photography for precise, non-artistic efforts (science efforts), it is sometimes like pulling teeth to get me to try something different.

A very neat lamp shade and wonderful lighting.

I clicked on it to comment that I couldn't beleive that this wasn't featured yet and presto, it's featured. Congrats Craig.

King said 360 days ago:

Lange,

You correctly guessed that I was teasing you. I think centered photographs are perfectly fine if that is what the composition calls for...and that's the big question: what works best? I'm more inclined to be critical of images that are placed extremely off center for no good reason, which I call a gimmick. I strive for balance (whatever the hell that is).

I'm to NY tomorrow for three days, I'm going to take a look at this lamp. It's beautiful, and if reasonably priced I will probably buy two of these. Thanks for the "introduction."

Lovely shot, by the way.

CraigMartin said 360 days ago:

Flatline, there are many interesting subjects for photography in the store, but be quick - I had only taken a couple of shots of this lamp before they shut me down, afraid I was an industrial spy or something.
