I don't think I like the selective color removal, though it does work well to bring focus on the tree in the foreground.

Sorry, but for me the composition and the colors doesn't works on this photo...

nice cuting space and use of negative and positive spaces though there miss a bit of something in this puzzled composition

sorry, doesn't do it for me.

I think this would have a lot more impact without the processing. the lone tree would have done well for the theme, with the other trees in the background.

This is a great scene. Unfortunately for me I don't think the technique is pulled off well.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I knew when I decided to post this that it wasn't a very stong image. However, it has garnered me more comments than anything else I've ever posted. Go figure.

For those of you who questioned the processing, I felt I had to do it in order to make the tree stand out from the background. Even with the processing, the end result was less than desirable. Ideally I would have taken this picture from the right of side of the frame, thus giving it water for a background. Unfortunately there's nothing but swamp at that vantage point, and I'm not willing to get wet for this scrawny little pine tree.

Scrawniness was the reason for the post though. This tree reminds me of the one Charlie Brown brought home. I guess this is what a little tree like that can aspire to grow up to be.
