This looks like where the scary toys live.

kadenajack said 614 days ago:

What the hell? I'm not caring for this one much at all. That harsh light that leaves so much else in shadows is just sinister looking. Rather than "Toys", this says horror film to me.

Lemmingstone said 614 days ago:

Kind of creepy feel to this shot but still relevant. Spooky.

KAD_Imaging said 613 days ago:

Not sure what to make of this one?

klimin_a_s said 613 days ago:

The children like to play at night with torch
I like the play of the light and shadows. High marks!

:-)

ChriZ said 613 days ago:

After reading your comments it seems like I got the mood I wanted to capture in this shot!
Hummingbird, the horse is quite friendly actually!
Kadenajack, couldn't it say horror and toys?
Since toys and horror originally are two completely different things, you see them together quite often!
That harsh light was intentionally to get the mood of the image. I had to exposures and put them over, that way I could still bring out certain areas (head of the horse)
Kad, well, it's up to you!
klimin, thanks!

ChriZ said 613 days ago:

Um sorry for all the mistakes but there's no edit feature and this box is really small =)

uvikidd said 613 days ago:

scary .. like it

Lange said 613 days ago:

Interesting, but very dark. It reminds me of a Tim Burton film (unfortunately, that is not a compliment from me) in that there is not enough light to see what is present.

I think there is promise in the image, but the darkness just about obliterates everything.

zulu said 613 days ago:

Its a little bit mystic. Thats why for me its working great and this make it different from the most other pictures here. I love the color. I hope the baby is not blind about the flash ;) . Only the twist disturbs me a bit.

zulu said 613 days ago:

I cannot understand why the people here have problem with the scary part in this. Thats one of the things here, I`m thinking always again to stop here in Weeklyshot. My understanding of artistical photography is to provocate, be different and not boringly. But photographers are also humans and wont feel surely in their own four wound.... :-(

Zulu:

I for one, hope you do not stop posting to WS. I have found a very large percentage of your images to be wonderful. I agree with you that there is a very broad range of artistic photography.... and many images are meant to be provocative.

I for one, did not comment about any "scariness" of this image... because I did not find it scary. Others may have.

For me, my comments really meant that I found the picture TOO dark to be artistically valuable to me. In the same way I find almost all of Tim Burton's films (except perhaps two of them) to be aggravatingly unwatchable because he keeps everything on film in so much darkness that half the time I have nothing to watch. In ChrisZ's image, I did not actually realize the image was of a hobby horse until I read the comments because it was so dark.... I thought it was the side of a rocking chair. Same for the human-like object.... I am not sure if it is a real kid or a doll.... because there is not enough detail.

Again, because it is ARTISTIC expression, there are going to be many different opinions of what is good. I DO LIKE scary, and I think that scary *could* be appropriate here, but this kind of Burtonesque "scary" leaves me cold.... because I cannot see much.

In my own artistic interpretation, I find the manner of depticting dark or scary scenes as they did in the 1950s and 1960s to be much more appealing. They used CONTRAST to suggest darkness, whereas they had enough light to give detail.

Now finally, please do not get me wrong... I usually do enjoy ChrisZ's work... and I actually find this picture interesting now that I know more about it... my comments were about darkness of the image that to me detracted from its artistry.

And, finally, again, Zulu... I appreciate your work a great deal and hope that you stay.

ChriZ said 613 days ago:

Zulu thank you for your comment, I have to agree with you,... I guess it's not really a Weeklyshot friendly photograph! I started to use the themes provided by ws to experiment and try new things, getting a star for this for sure is fun but I'm not putting that much weight on them as I used to.

Lange thanks for sharing your pov. May I suggest buying a new display =)
I don't want to talk about this image now and try to explain what I feel and meant to capture...
I do respect everybody's opinion!
Although I would like that more people share their opinions.

I'm also a bit sad that this image got a rating of about 3.1 (that's not the sad part) but no one gave me any constructive crit in how to improve this image!

I'm here to learn but atm I'm just benefiting by getting fed with weekly themes!
(I'm not contributing a whole lot at the moment, so I maybe shouldn't wine around)

cheers...

Thank you Lange for your comment.
I am happy, that my pictures pleases you :)
Shure, I must give you right, what is good or not, is different in the opinion. I admit, I missunderstand your first comment. And now, I know how you mean this.
But there are always members, the think, when a picture is not so child frendly, then the picture is not good. look at comments by the "bludy toy" pictures. And their opinion is only the right one. When I not understand what the photographer meant, then I give no comment. Then the problem is then probably by me. Often the same was in other themes. I find it unfortunate, that Chriz must say about his own, that the picture is not WS friendly. I like WS very much, but when the sense only is upload WS community friendly pics, then it makes no more fun.

I will excuse me by all commenters here, my own was not tactfully.
So I am very tired and must go to bed.

kadenajack said 612 days ago:

zulu and ChriZ, I welcome both of you to upload whatever you want to to WS. However, I'm not going to choose not to comment if I don't like it as some people do here. I don't believe anything is WS friendly. The people who comment can choose to like something or not. I don't happen to like this, or the bloody doll shots either. I said as much. Some folks may like to mix horror and toys. I personally don't like horror in any setting, so you're never going to bring me around with an image like this.

Some folks haven't liked some of the stuff I've posted either. That's fine too.

love it

mysight said 611 days ago:

First of all, that door-hinge is so cool!
Carpenter here,to explain.
I like the horse and the different type lighting.

Now,is that a baby or a doll?

ChriZ said 611 days ago:

Mysight, thanks for the comment. The little girl you see is a doll.
Tell me more about the hinge...

YannickG said 611 days ago:

Interesting..

love the way the light reflects on the toy.

mysight said 610 days ago:

What country are you in?
That hinge looks to me, either old or foreign.
To me,it certainly is unique!

ChriZ said 610 days ago:

Switzerland... it certainly is old!

Yannick, thanks for your points and comment!
