The end for millions of innocent departing Jews.

Simple, powerful and very, very sad

What an ending it was.

I just wonder sometimes... I got an average score of 2.89 to relevance. Now, if Auswitz is only slightly more than halfway relevant for the theme of end, than what is???

bioLarzen said 680 days ago:

Thanx for the comments everyone!

(It was a numbing experience to visit Auswitz... Everyone should go there once, i think, even if the place plays absolutely no role in their family history - just like it didn't with me either)

I know where this is, and it is certainly the end.

CraigMartin said 680 days ago:

Is this the gate to Aushwitz?

CraigMartin said 680 days ago:

bioLarzen, I would attribute the low relevance score to people not recognizing this as the gate to Auswitz - I wasn't sure myself (though I marked it on the basis that it was).

Craig,
you're probably right.

great interpretation for the theme and unique point of view.

bioLarzen said 679 days ago:

(And a unique amount of time I had to wait to take it - I had to wait like 15 minutes to find a clear moment when noone was walking in my view :)))

Thanx again.

Wow! I cant believe I missed this. Take a day off and great things pass you by.
Sorry I cant rate this anymore but it is an incredible shot in every way. Can not get more relevant for me!
I love what this image represents, it is what I really look for in photography, a story! The stark nature of what is captured here echoes the sentiment of what is left at Aushwitz. Terrific angle and idea of capturing the reflection of the "arbeit..." sign. This should have been featured Gabor!

bioLarzen said 667 days ago:

Wow,
that's the most favourable reflection I got in Weekly Shot so far. What can I say? Thank you very much for that!

(Coincidence or fate, I don't know, but just a couple of days after I posted this photo a channel here showed the film "Fatelessness" based on the Nobel Prize winner novel (of the same title) by Imre Kertész, a Hungarian writer (I am also Hungarian). The novel tells his own true story - he was taken to Buchenwald, a lager just like Auswitz. The film, together with the picture - well, makes one rethink serious issues about life, for sure...

Sorry for the long comment.

Ana said 626 days ago:

and I agree, I'm sure most people didn't know what this was..

Better late than never, right? :)

Thanx for the comment, Ana!
