Oh, wow. Love the interpretation of "decicive moment"!

"Hmm, pick my nose or drink the wine? Which addiction do I succumb to?"

I'm sorry but this doesn't come close to my interpretation of the theme. I'm sure to you it has elements and has a personal resonance in relation to the theme but I feel no covergence of all these differant paths at that point in time to create something unique and only of that place and moment.

To easily this image could be re shot.

Lange said 928 days ago:

Good relevance! Somehow, the hues in the image blend too much together for me for some reason. I wish there were a bit more "starkness" for I think that would better convey your idea. But I do enjoy the photograph.

Probably more powerful to some of us then others. Excellent.

reality said 927 days ago:

Thank you cdcootie, Lange and moenkopi. I believe the Decisive Moment is the second prior to the action... or inaction.

I really like this image. In particular the depth of field is really well done, and the angle is unique and original.

But this looks like it was meticulously set up and then executed. You had to be crouched down next to, or leaning over onto the table, with the camera right up next to the glass to get a shot from this very cool angle, and also had to have time to compose it and get the focus right.

Most women I know wouldn't calmly just sit there watching someone that they didn't know and/or someone they weren't expecting to photograph them while that person got into a relatively akward position, and took the neccessary time to set up and execute this kind of shot. Her pose and facial expression indicate that she is actively participating in the creation of this image, which again, is very cool, but to me looks very staged ;) I don't think that is what this theme is about.

Or maybe it is that she is trying to "decide" whether or not to have another glass of wine? I still don't think that's what they mean by "Decisive Moment", especially if you read the whole theme description.

So this is just a really cool image that I score very highly in all areas except relevance.

gorin-images: thank you for your kind words. this was not at all staged. i...always playing with one camera or another / was dinking around with a new point and shoot. not wanting to haul my d70's everywhere with me...i had just purchased a nikon coolpix 7600. while part of it sat on the table of daily grind...my intention was to see how close i could get to "my" wine glass without blur. catching my silent friend across the table - deep in thought.

gorin-images said 927 days ago:

Well, that is freakin remarkable!! And understanding that.....it fits PERFECTLY! It also explains why she looks so calm. In fact now, it looks like she is even bored watching you play with your new camera ;)

That's the problem/challenge with these "high concept" themes. When all you have to go by is the image, and you have to try and fit it to something that is as much of an "intelectual" concept as a "visual" one, but you don't have the back-story available you end up judging something "not relevant" when you might have rated it "highly relevant" if you had the missing information.

Knowing what I know now, I'd probably say this is one of the best, and most relevant entries I have seen yet!

gorin- you have made my evening...thank you.

Deb,

I see, you are in fact one of the paths, a participant (playing with camera etc)rather than just a witness. Interesting, that does add a lot for me.

Thanks for the explanation.
