There is a sense of a powerful story here. Society can build temples and skyscrapers, but can't feed an old beggar in the winter. I think relevance would be enhanced if it was definitely clear this was an old person or a poor person. How to accomplish that? I'm not sure, but perhaps with the face visible, or old gnarled hands poking out from tattered sleeves.

I really like this image. The black and white heavy contrast and grain give it an old, dismal feel. I also like the mirroring of the sign and the woman walking. However, nothing really screams decisive momment to me.

love this image.

i didn't for a moment think of the walking woman as poor or under privileged, just as from an older generation and therefore someone who has witnessed much change, and also perhaps someone who has been left behind by change, is possibly unsettled by the capitalist revolution. i saw a pensioner who lived her life on the communist allowance.

it's surely a sign of a great photo that it provokes creative and weighted interpretation.

the stick figure walking towards her on the sign is a nice bit too.
