Clouds definitely have a connotation of being "soft". However, since these appear to be storm clouds, they don't really say "soft" to me. I do like the spot of blue in the middle and I totally see where you were going with this. Perhaps some lighter, wispy-er (is that a word?) clouds would've worked better.
