Same thing I think:
sil·hou·ette (sĭl'ū-ĕt') pronunciation
n.
1. A drawing consisting of the outline of something, especially a human profile, filled in with a solid color.
2. An outline that appears dark against a light background.

It's OK I guess. And definitely relevant. I just don't get any real impact or "punch" from it.
IMHO the silhouettes of the leaves, cat, and dark beam on the far right all sort of blend together to result in none of them being distinct.
This same shot, if it were only the cat silhouette behind the drapes, with bright areas all the way around it and maybe just the thin lines of the window mullions would be alot stronger IMHO.
Nice attempt, but so far there are just alot of other submissions that have excellent distinctive silhouettes and excellent composition etc. which I would (and have) rated higher.
You do get at least one more shot at this theme (maybe two if this is your first).

After reading the comments, I would add that I don't think a shadow and silhouette are the same thing. But that this is clearly a silhouette. The light source is behind the silhouetted object(s) relative to the viewer, and that is was makes it a silhouette vs. just a shadow, which could be cast onto a separate surface.
Maybe it's fair to say that all silhouettes are shadows (i.e. cast directly toward the viewer) but that not all shadows are silhouettes?

Gorin, I am confused by the definition and so too it would seem are alot of people. I just cannot make my mind up. I think you have summarised it well.
As for the converging detail, well, this was really just a snap. I like the tranquility of the overall composition but, well. This definitely isn't a strong image though, I agree. Still the defintion seems to be throwing people, judging by the results.

100% agree with you about those dictionary definitions for "Silhouette". I mentioned to Reality (Deb) that this is one of those cases where it seems to confuse things more than it helps ;)

It's difficult to know whether this is a shadow or a silhouette - or both! Whatever, I like the delicate projection on to the curtain. It works well.
