I really enjoy your composition and subject matter. However, this is a shadow, not a silhouette, and therefore not relevant for this theme.

What I do like here is how much of a story is being told withonly two tones and some lines. That is cool regardless of relevance.

A wonderful image and example for this theme.

jarrett...you know i have the utmost respect for you - but i have to disagree with you on this.
A shadow can be a silhouette as well as a shadow at the same time.
It's true origin is derived from shadows.
If we get truly technical...i fall short in the silhouette theme because my photos "cut out" subject is not completely solid.

Definition of Silhouette
Sil`hou`ette´
n. 1. A representation of the outlines of an object filled in with a black color; a profile portrait in black, such as a shadow appears to be.
v. t. 1. To represent by a silhouette; to project upon a background, so as to be like a silhouette.

Ialways though a silhouette was when the light source is behind the object that is the silhouette. It's a silhouette because it is casting its shadow directly toward you vs. a shadow cast on to another surface.

This is a case where the definition is confusingme more thanclarifying things for me. Well, in any case, I like the image...and I am certain this "is it a shadow or a silhouette" thing will be a recurrent sub-theme to this theme ;)

i initially hesitated submitting this photo...because i know what this theme is ultimately looking for. the cowboy riding off in the sunset! :)

for the next six days it is my personal goal to capture a silhouette with the light source behind the subject!

thank you for taking the time to have this conversation.

Great shot, I like it a lot.

Alakija said 710 days ago:

Nice shot but isn't this a shadow?

gavingough said 710 days ago:

I do think this is a lovely concept but I suspect it's going to fall down on "Relevance" as it's really a shadow rather than a silhouette.

Ana said 710 days ago:

I had this thought at first, of a tree shadow I had, but decided it wasn't relevant as a 'shadow.' I like the thought, though

Wow, this is a fabulous photo! Love the shadows, but doesn't quite fit the silhouette theme. Nonetheless, GREAT image!

i love this one!

Derrick said 708 days ago:

What totally makes this photo is the shadow detail! Without it, it would've been so-so!

Really original. Touching. I am a sucker for shadows.
