Very moody and atmospheric. Kind of somber too. But I like it!

Love this photo, but the black border is pretty distracting.

holger said 857 days ago:

Impressive.

I'd like to see a bit more definition on the figures as they get a little lost in the darkness. Nice contrast but not sure if the really blur works.

@absolutelyN
thanks for your comment.
it was a very foggy winter afternoon. they walked under a bridge "into the light". don't know if you ever tried to get a "sharp and detailed" picture in foggy environment. :)

@all
thanks fort your comments

kind regards, v.t.

This is just stunning. I agree about the borderbut nonetheless,
well done.

I really like the softness and tonal range here. I agree about the border...better without it.

lbstone said 854 days ago:

I agree with the comments about the border. But beyond that, something about this image feels "weird" to me. It almost feels like it was upsampled from a small crop. I'm not even sure how to explain it... The quality and lack of detail doesn't feel natural to me. (Am I just imagining this?)

Anyhow, other than that I like the composition and fogginess. Good stuff.

hi,
thanks for all your comments and crits.
about the quality: as you can see, there are lines in the picture, which looks like "upsampled". this comes from the filmplate (glas) where the emulsion has been brushed. the emulsion expired 1985. for this shot I have used an old camera, "universal extra" with fixfocus lens "aplanat 7,5cm". the cam was crafted 1927 and uses as film glasplates with emulsion (equivalent to modern plan films). the line/border comes from my scanner mask.

I'm a great freak of old equipment and I love to play with such old stuff and also use the old methods for developing (daguerotype, cyanotype, etc.)

from my point of view, I like to show the people this old techniques and the results of it. if "weekly shot" is the wrong place for such shots, because you like the "modern quality" much better, then let me know and I'll stop uploading such "old-fashioned/vintage" images :-))

you all have a great day and thanks for paying attention to my words.

kind regards

Nah... We definitely need to expand our horizons a bit on WeeklyShot. Not all images need to be crisp sunset shots. :) In fact, I'm personally fond of polaroids, Holgas, lith, cyanotype, expired film, etc., but for whatever reason they regularly get marked low here.

You're photos are definitely welcome here. I was just trying to understand why this particular photo looks the way it does, because it's even a little more different than a lot of the alternative processes that I'm fond of and so used to seeing.

Ana said 854 days ago:

this is the reason I don't like the last category (image quality). some photos are MEANT TO look a certain way, and juding the quality does a few things, judges the camera, equiptment, film, style and creativity of the photographer. it may not appeal to the person viewing (impact) but that doesn't make the composition or relevance low. (eek, getting into a google group discussion)

By the way, this photo is amazing.

Just to clarify on my own original comment seeing as there is discussion about giving details of why you don't like an image.

On first glance it looked to me to have had something like a photoshop median filter applied. I'm just really not keen on the effect here no matter if it was created by traditional techniques or at the computer. That’s just my personal opinion. Many others will love it.

I'm defiantly all for as much diversity in images here as possible but I’d also prefer an honest reaction to an image whether it’s a good or a bad one.

I certainly do agree however that it is a great composition and that it certainly has mood. It's also fascinating to hear how this image was actually created. I'm looking forward to seeing more - it makes me want to get out the old rolleiflex.
