this would be much stronger without that head there.

while the head totally brings colour into the shot, its a little distracting, and maybe a bit too out of focus.
its a great photo though :D

Fan-bluddy-tastic. The position of the girl's head just creeping into frame is very nice... I've got one of these doors myself, actually... I'm saving it for a 'Religion' theme ;)

I find this would be a stronger image without the tuft of hair at the bottom which i find distracting. I really like it cropped just above the head- as your eye goes directly to Jesus.

I wouldn't have expected this image to be featured. I had seen this shot before it was featured, but didn't take a moment to comment/rate because it didn't speak to me. I have to say I'm surprised it is featuerd, which really means it's a learning experience for me. I like the sign but, like some other commenters, find the colorful head a complete put off.
Nonetheless, congratulations João!

This is really interesting stuff to read because I find the head gives a really interesting feel and angle to what would be an otherwise plainish shot.
It makes me think what she might be thinking about the sign as she looks at it. It adds humour and youth and relevance to the carved doors.

Owen, I agree with your assessment, but the degree of out of focus on the head just isn't working for me. It's either too out of focus or not enough out of focus.

Or maybe if more of the head were in the frame...? Something like that. Can't quite put my finger on it.

I'm with George. I like it, but the selective Depth of Field doesn't work in this case. They should both be in focus. Fun colors though.

Effective verticality of the composition. I like how the colourful head intrudes on the shot, relieving it of the threatening monotony of the stone.
