I just can't free myself from the idea that a self-portrait should

1.) contain the face in some recognizeable way;
2.) tell something (important) about the subject.

Well, I just can hop this one doeesn't ell anything about you - a faceless, dark shape... :)

But, on the other hand, if I somehow manage to forget those two principles above, what I can see then is a great shot. Great idea, great composition, and, since I'm totally sure the contrast is overdone on purpose, great technique.

Consequently high marks.

Thanks bioLarzen. I actually agree on your second item, but not on the first one. I feel that a good self-portrait should tell how you see yourself, which doesn't necessarily include your face.

I also think that this picture says some things about myself, though perhaps this is not very obvious and very much left open to interpretation (I can't really judge since I already know myself quite a bit :)). Important elements here (in my opinion) are the fact that my arms are wide open, and that I don't have any consistence but help to reveal something that was otherwise hidden...

Love the high key which then brings down the shadowy stones. Nice.

Very cool shot!

I like the contrast of this photo!

I begin to think, could HDR technique make this shot something different? I would like see more details in the lights of the background and want to save details in the dark part of the photo. Did you take away details in lights intentionally? I don't criticize your shot, it's only interestingly for me.

@klimin: it was of course totally on purpose to burn hilights like this. The original picture is correctly exposed, with details in both parts. But it didn't look like what I wanted to go for :)
