I like this. I wish the chess pieces were in some kind of meaningful position...but then, again, maybe they are. I think if the light were a bit brighter on your face the white squares wouldn't dominate so much. In fact, I probably would have shaded the chess board from the direct light, but I guess this was shot with flash on camera, so that would be bit tricky. It could be done, though.

Hey, Gabor...is chess one of your interests? I never learned to play well. I had a friend who was some kind of child prodigy. I never got in more than 3 moves, so I was discouraged early.

This is a good idea. How did you think of it?

Ana said 554 days ago:

interesting idea.

King,

thanx for the fair and meaningful comment!

Yes, I like chess a lot. I can totally submmerge in it when I'm playing - that's what I had in mind when I took this one.

You're right, my face should be a bit brighter - my only explanation is that this one was not meant to be a self-portrait.

Oh, and I'm not a good player myself either - never learned any strategies and tactics only the rules of movement and taking pieces...

Ana,

interesting in a positive or negative way?

King said 554 days ago:

Bio...so this wasn't intended to be a self-portrait. That leaves my question open: How did you think to do this? What inspired you to photograph yourself, reflected in the chessboard, and to present the image upside down?

bioLarzen said 554 days ago:

King,

what I said above: that feeling of being totally diluted in that ever so vibrating world of chess.

Of course the picture is rotated and originally I meant it to stay the right way up - but then ended up like this.

And another interesting (?) piece of the story: altough it might look like this, I'm actually not looking at the camera, but at the "black" king. I was suprised to find it looks like I was looking straight into the camera, thus making it look like a self-portrait - so, in fact, I've managed to take an accidental self-portrait - quite some achivement, huh? :D

Neat.

Well, I haven't seen that before. Well seen and executed. My only suggestion would be a tighter shot so we could see more of you in the reflections.

Has the feel of an M. C. Escher print.

One more rating, and you will be featured (imho)! Great self-portrait! But I wish more homogeneous for the background (without joints).

uvikidd said 553 days ago:

amazing .. good work sir.

bioLarzen said 553 days ago:

Thank you everyone!

I decided to reshoot this one with the suggestions you made. I guess it is worth one more try, isn't it?

I know everyone has a chess board on their ceiling!

bioLarzen said 553 days ago:

But only mine has glass-magnetic pieces.
