Tracy, I was so caught up in the positives that I overlooked the fact that this could use some shadow detail. This appears to have been shot in sunlight. All you need is a white card or a sheet or a light colored wall to your left and you'd get all the detail you need. My hunch is that you wanted solid black for some reason.
What reason would that be? Come on girl, what's the story? (sorry, couldn't resist)

Thanks King, I was actually shooting something different and while I was waiting for the sun to do what I wanted, I got bored and took some like this. In the end I preferred this over the shot I was trying to get, too bad I hadn't thought it out in advance. I figured I would get flak for that. The sunlight really made my hair much redder than it actually is.

I really like the idea and the composition, but I don't think the lighting is working as well as it should be. There's something about the skin colour, and the eye is not lit well and looks glassy. Maybe the head could have been facing more straight on to the camera as well.

Great clarity and catch light in your eye. I would have liked to see the composition moved over to the right about a 1/4 more to leave more negative space to the left. Your eye is the focal point and is beautiful.

oh, the lighting here is great. Love that it shines on all of your hair at the bottom, but only half your face. wonderful.

Nice how you managed to capture those emotions, it's a bit too saturated for my taste though...

@ChriZ - yeah I muffed up the colour somewhere along the way, it is a little too saturated for me too.

Is that a cookie crumb under you lower lip?! What gloriously beautiful red hair. And that sweet face that makes me want to sit and talk with you and tell you everything (my wife says I tell everybody everything anyway, so why should this be any different).
An honest and straightforward portrait. The only small criticism is that in leaving room for your hair you have cropped uncomfortably close to your eyes. I would have switched this to a square, but that's just me.
Well done. High marks.
