This is good work, of course, and high marks. I would make the highlight along the right side of your face and shoulder more subtle. However, I think that your personal taste leans toward the dramatic, which this is, rather than the subtle. It's a personal choice.

How long have you been into studio lighting? Do you have a nice set of flash units? umbrellas? That sort of thing?

king, this was an experimental setup with one striplight (right sode) and one reflector on the left. the background is brushed aluminium used as backlight (reflection).

2 hensel porty flash units, 3 other bowens flash units and the other things used in a small studio. (stands, umbrellas, beauty dish, etc. bla) :-)

I did some brand new portraits 4 days ago, but I have to wait until the booklet for my show in may is printed. then I can post them :-))

Vernon...nice set up. I used to own more than a dozen flash units and two dozen flash heads. Old-fashioned now, and difficult to keep in repair. Now, nothing. Much easier to keep in repair. :>)

I don't know if I have seen this full size before, perhaps only as a thumb on V. I would have remembered because the eyes are great, the same hue as the shirt I assume was on purpose.

Yep, quite nice as a self portrait. You must be getting pretty good at 'em eh Vernon? ;) On a tech note, and maybe this is just me, but I find myself drawn to your left-wrist due to the lighting... so not sure on this point.
