this shot is making me want to get my little hand thing and drag it to the left to see more. the line at the side of your face seems fake..not sure what the background is/was. I love the detail of your face, but that blurry area between the white and your face makes me want to pull it aside.

This is a great shot, in terms of texture etc., but I am not entirely sold on the composition...why/how does cutting out 2/3s of the face convey more than more of the face would have?

Ana> The left border is not fake. I think it's a combination of white wall with very bright lighting behind, the shallow DOF and a bit of playing with curves.

At last! Half a face. I've been waiting for this. Yours is sharper than mine, but mine has more depth of field. This is a well-done photo, although I'm not a fan of this type of crop.

Given the way it's cropped, do you wish you had just a little more depth of field so your ear didn't go quite so much out of focus?

In retrospect, maybe an f stop or two extra would have been nice to graduate the DOF more smoothly.
I had a feeling after reading your own comments that the 1/2 to 2/3 face would get your attention.
As for the 'complicated' story...
A few months prior to taking this image I suffered a freak medical thing that left my left eye a bit messed up. It was something I was unsure would resolve or ever get back to normal and at the time was very conscious about it. But to be honest Im very lucky to have gotten away with that little of a deficit. Thankfully all is back to normal, except for a slight difference in size between my pupils. When I started experimenting with my new dSLR I shot this as is, probably for the reason described above. (woah, that was personal ;-), I dont talk about it much to be honest).

I suddenly feel the urge to shave. Technically this is spot on. Since King predicted, and I anticipated some shots composed in this way, I took one off for that. So, it's not a homer, but it is a solid triple.

Good details! But the borders in the left part of the portrait (background-neck and background-ear) is devert from the main part of the photo. High marks from me.
