I have tried my best to tell who this was by the reflection in the wine glass, but I couldn't quite make it out.

C'est moi!

Matt, everytime I see something of yours come up I end up singing the eggplant song after rating. It always makes me happy.

It gives me joy to make you happy! This rather mundane shot was all I could muster after work today, but I posted it because it sums up this human's condition...take off the glasses, spill the wine, and let the world drift in and out of focus, until the memories of the day take their rightful place in the ever expanding universe of beautiful, meaningless, meaningful occurrences.

I really like the softness of this. It's always nice to sit out in the garden with a good glass of wine.

Well composed. The far left stem of the shrunb grabs my attention and is a bit distracting though.

end of the day glass? maybe a book (or magazine or paper?) on the table would have added a bit more impact and interest.

Looks kinda like a signature--California living? Probably not--looks overcast. You can tape a little strip of white paper to the back side of the glass to get the red wine to glow beautifully. If this were a two-page advertisement, all that empty space over on the right would be a great place for ad copy.

@King, I am now waiting for the camera to come home tonight so I can try taping paper on the back of wine glass.
King said 449 days ago:
Anna,
Use just a tiny bit of transparent type. If you hve any white Post-It Notes, that would work, too. You want to be careful not to add any unwanted texture to the wine.
While you are at it, take a tall piece of white matteboard and prop it behind and to one side of the wine glass, just out of the frame. Look for a nice highlight to pop out along the side of the wine glass, similar to what you see above on the left side.
Also make sure you don't have any bright or shiny things near the camera unless you want to see their reflections in the glass.
Have fun!

P.S. - only one edge of the paper touches the back of the wine glass--the rest of the paper (about 2" wide and 3" high) is at approximately a right angle to the camera. You can cut the other edge in a nice s-curve, or just experiment until it pleases you.

King,
Excellent suggestions. Or...just drink the glass of wine, fill it up again, drink it again, and then *imagine* doing all that stuff.
;)

New suggestion,
Invite King over and have a bottle of white available...I'm allergic to red wine, although I like it (bummer). Share the wine while talking about photography.

Now that, my friend, is the best idea I've heard in a long time...and I always have plenty of both on hand.
btw, have a great trip. While in Prague maybe you can have a nice glass of Liebfraumilch (too sweet for me), and help get that eye on the mend!
