Nice contrast of lives in this one. It's almost like the two women are on separate worlds. They're so far apart, but right next to each other.

You could see this in my city as well. Overall I like this, but I never understand why we have a tendency to show scenes like this in black and white instead of in color. Do you feel it has more impact by being this way, or does color make the difference between the two women too raw?

yes, we all see a bit of this in our lives, unfortunately. The contrast between the two people is strong.

Oh, man, does everybody submit only perfect shots??? I guess I have never given so many 25's for any theme...
This b&w is just awesome!

I love this .. just one question, why you used sepia?

Craig, you're on a roll! Congrats, I loved the juxtaposition on this one.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
@Winetou - it wasn't so much a choice of sepia, as duotone. I needed a light duotone to extend the tonal range, in order to bring out the features in the second person's face - it was too dark in straight B&W. Then, when I was playing around with which "tone" to use in duotone, I just settled on this one as being the most pleasing.
@Anna (Hummingbird) - good question. I really prefer B&W for people generally, all the more so when I want to add a kind of "documentary" type feel to it...but I haven't tried before to articulate precisely why that is. Perhaps because it gives it the feel of "history", or otherwise focuses the attention on the people, and not any distracting colourful backdrop. But I certainly didn't feel it would be too raw - quite the contrary, I was trying to highlight the contrast. Good question, and I will have to ponder it some more.

Most excelent contrast there,
a great balance of black and white!
So close yet so far apart.
