...but then I've always *liked* girls who wore socks in bed.
I love the rough-brushed red background and wish it extended all the way across the shot. Did you consider cropping this a bit tighter? The light on the girl is very complimentary, wrapping nicely into the shadow areas. Her smile looks a bit forced. Did you ask her to smile and hold it?--just curious.
There also seems to be a bit of a cyan color cast on her face and hair. Was there a greenish-blue wall or surface near the camera that was bouncing some light back on the model?
Questions aside, this is well done. High marks.

This is definitely a scene from everyday life. You have done a great job getting the exposure right, and I really like the lighting from the source at the right hand side that you can;t see in the frame.
I gave a 3 on composition because I think you have 70% of an excellent composition here. Unfortunately, that shoulder in the lower left hand corner is a real bummer. I'd have given you a 5 for composition if you had moved a little firther to your right to get this shot, which would have given you the same basic shot, but with a nearly pure red background, and no distracting shoulder.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments. Here are some of the answers to the questions...
@King - I did consider cropping out the window frame, but I kind of liked the second espresso cup in the shot, as it gave the sense of the person she was speaking to. As for the smile, it was natural - she had no idea I was shooting this, and she was deep in conversation. As for the cyan, it must be just from the overcast day outside, and some of the tweaking I did to the hue.
@Gorin - I totally agree with you about the shoulder, but there was no way around it. I had a pillar to my right, and to have tried to move would have alerted her to my shooting. It was a pure candid.

I really like this candid portrait. Unfortunately, that grey blob (somebody's shoulder?) is a little distracting.

The color and texture of the wall against her white shirt is very striking. She has an interesting expression.

nice lighting and angle, the grey area at the left a little bit distracting, but still nice picture.

Congrats Craig. I kept coming back to this image but with all the craziness of Kyla's b-shower I just didn't get around to rating or commenting. I also accidentally posted under HER user name for someone else's shot and didn't want to risk doing that again. It is a very nice capture.

I love the sinuous curves on the left hand side counterpointed by the linear forms on the right. Excellent composition, beautiful photo.
