Thanks. It's not an office building, it's my home. For some weird reason, swedish builders have put hude windows to seal off the balcony.
But yes, living close to some nature is great :)

Your home, wow, thanks for sharing it with us Nat.
Like your little friend there.

I like it! Any particular reason for what appears to be over-exposure. Do you prefer hi-key images? In no way is this a hi-key image, but it looks like you are deliberately making everything 2-3 tones lighter than normal.
I'm just yakking here because I'm curious.
nattfodd said 480 days ago:
@King: hum, I don't think I ever do it consciously, but now that you mention it, it may well be possible. When I began photography one year ago, I tended to make everything low-key, so I guess it is some sort of cycle :) I will try to pay more attention to this, thanks for making me notice.
Here, the bird and the reflections are voluntarily high-key, but not the rest of the shot, I only desaturated it to get this washed-out aspect.

I really liked the interesting patterns of lines and the blurred shapes in the background.
I am certain this is probably the view from your office so I rate it high on relevance. I marked down on "technique" because I can see your reflection on both sides of the image, and I am pretty sure you didn;t plan it that way. Even if you did, I think it could have been executed better to include your reflection if that was the intent.
nattfodd said 479 days ago:
@gorin: this wasn't the intent when I took the shot, but it was deliberate in post-processing. In the original picture, both of my shadows were barely recognizable, and I had to manually make it "pop out".
Those reflections are, in my opinion, what makes this otherwise pretty boring picture interesting.
Thanks for your comment and your honesty, having the ratings in the comment certainly make things a lot more interesting :)

I find the reflected background in this shot a little too busy, taking my attention away from the subject. The bird is the subject, right?

I got the idea to include the ratings from bioLarzen, who asked about this on the discussion group. I'd like it if ratings were no longer anonymous. That would go a long way toward solving the "speed-rating" problem that everyone gripes about.
As for the post-processing, I think it is interesting how people will approach the same situation in different ways. I would have tried really hard not to get my reflection in the initial capture, and if I had found it, would have darkened it further to get rid of it. Not saying that is better or worse, but that would have been my approach. You did the exact opposite, and that is interesting to me.
nattfodd said 479 days ago:
Well, there was no chance I was getting rid of the reflections, since the bird was already quite afraid of my presence and the sun was shining directly on the glass.
I have also other shots where the reflections are less visible, but I don't think they render that well, since apart from the bird, there isn't really anything else striking/interesting in this shot.
I also liked the fact that the shot had multiple layers, one of which being a real "scene from my life" : me taking a picture.
But I completely understand that people don't like the effect created, I even hesitated to submit this picture to WS fearing that it would look too weird :)

This is an interesting shot but I think I would like to see it in full colour as well.
beckn32 said 477 days ago:
Interesting. Is the bird desaturated? I wish we could see all of it.
beckn32 said 477 days ago:
I like your reflection left in. You're right in saying it gives this more interest other than the bird, at least for me.

Didn't notice the bird in the thumbnail.Perfect!
Looks like a glassy office building.
Fortunately giving you great views of nature.
