Looks like she's asking you to kiss it better and all you could manage was to take a photo. Cruel, cruel man. ;)

Love the wide angle and DOF.

Thanks man. Actually, this is a HE...my 3.5 year old son Tristan. People often think he's a girl because we have never cut his hair. It is really long.

As for the "injury" he is a total trooper, and stuff like this never slows him down. He was running around at a birthday party today (attending these for all the kids we know is a common event....almost every weekend) and fell flat on his stomach, skinning his knuckle in the process. He was upset for about 15 seconds.

I made sure he was OK, and then I thought "hey this might make a cool shot!" So I asked him if he would hold up his cut so I could take a picture of it.

"Actually, this is a HE"

wow. isn't my face red...

J, the DOF almost makes Tris' hand/arm look like it was PS'd in! Great capture and at least now your folks will have a photo of him!

Ouch.

winetou said 452 days ago:

superb, love the sharpness and the Dof in this picture. High marks from me

Simply beautiful!

oweee!
Brave little girl.

Flatline said 452 days ago:

My boys are tough too - thank goodness. 4 + 3 yrs old. "Toughness" is luck of the draw, says little about the kid, but it just makes my life easier and more fun that they don't freak out every time they fall. There is a lot of Boo-Boo presentation at our house, too. And because I take pics all the time, I have recently been asked to "catalog" the injuries.

Great shot.

Thanks everyone who rated and commented! after my screw up with my first submission - uploading aphoto that had not been taken within the past 24 hours - I am glad I managed to get another submission up that people enjoyed.

I can't think of anything that better represents a "scene from my life" than one of my boys (I also have a 8.5 year old stepson) presenting me with some small problem like this. It is a very cool experience.

King said 452 days ago:

I like the fine shadow along the side of his fist that helps to separate his hand from his face. Of my two children, my daughter was the tough one.

Nice shot, Jarrett, and nice come back. :>)

King said 452 days ago:

By the way, did Tristan have to hold still for about 5 minutes while you got the focus and alignment exactly right? I've seen you are work, dude.

gorin-images said 452 days ago:

King, have you ever know a three and a half year old to hold still for 5 minutes?

Flatline said 452 days ago:

Thank goodness for Canon's auto-focus system. My wife always asks my why I own such a fancy manual-focus Leica but then use the Canon to shoot the kids...

King said 452 days ago:

Jarrett,

In the old days (when I was very young), children hardly moved at all. Attention-deficit disorder with hyperactivity is, after all, a modern diagnosis.

Thats one reason I can hand-hold a photograph for an 8 second exposure without a tripod.

Sorry, my comment is an aside. This is fabulously in focus and appears to be quite spontaneous.

I love this image. It just reminds me of the innocence of youth. Also that everything at that age seems exciting. Even a minor scratch.

It's an OK photo I guess, but nothing spectacular. Just capturing that sense of wonder is an acheivement in itself.

However, I would have to say that it does speak volumes about its author, and his everyday life.

mysight said 452 days ago:

Looks like he was ready to flip the finger.

mysight said 452 days ago:

Flatline, what a fine looking little fella.
I see you are a rich man too.

gorin-images said 452 days ago:

That's Tristan Gorin, my son actually, although Flatline's kids are pretty cute too ;)

I thought your comment about the "finger" was especially funny though, since this was my first reation when I saw the thumbnail of this image after downloading it fro the mamory card, and also when I saw the thumbnail on WS too.

gorin-images said 452 days ago:

I guess I will get the bona-fide "finger shot when he's a teenager right?
