I like this a lot. Great capture of a great moment. Almost makes me want to breed. ;)

My one criticism would be those lighter spots in the background (are they people). If they were cloned out, or darkened, this would be perfect.

OK. Unless you work on a film set of a movie set in the 1940's or 1950's, then I don;t think this was shot in the last 24 hours before you submitted it. That's why the 2 for relevance.

Outside of that, I think it has good impact, and the composition is just plain awesome IMHO. The strong diagonal and the perspective it creates work really well to lead your eya back into the shot.

I gave 3 on technique becasue overall the lighting is really good, but there are some lighted objects within the dark area at the top left in front of the counter. If those had been left dark (or darkened later) so that this area was blacked out, I think this would be a near perfect shot.

I am intereted to hear the story behind it.

@ gorin-images: I'm surprised by the low relevance you gave to this shot. To me, it's just a father taking his daughter for an ice-cream. Seems like a pretty everyday-scene to me.

OK. gorin-images, after looking at your photoblog you have a new fan. Incredible work there from cover to cover. I'll be putting up a link to your photoblog on mine under "Legend worthy Photoblogs". Anyway....back to the photo. I was at a fair which I frequent often because I enjoy street photography and saw this man and what appears to be his daughter looking at pastries in a glass case. I snapped a few quick shots and BooM.....got a keeper. Thanks for the tips about the photo. I blew it by not losing the "lighted objects" in the back. Easily fixable in Photoshop.

Now this is one fine shot! What a story and what emotion! Wow, I love it. Ace all across. wow!

@Tom - I appreciate the story behind this. Thanks for posting it. I guess the "secondary" story is that you so effectively captured a "classic" American scene here, or the characteristics of one, that the initial impact for me was that this was an old photo, much older than withn 24 hours....or 24 years for that matter. The technique you used, and the surroundings really looked like what you would see in a picture from maybe 1942.

and thanks for the compliment....and the link! If you haven;t already, I hope that you post the corrected version of this image on your site. It is really an awesome image.

@ montage - The single reason for the low relevance score is that this was so convincing as a classic photograph. It evokes the feeling of WAY more innocent times many decades ago so well that I beleived it actually IS an old photograph. So I thought it missed that 24 hour criteria of the theme description. That is all. If I had the benefit of the "back-story" I would have rated this a 4 or a 5 for relevance.

Is this the, "Daddy, I'd like one of each" shot? I love the composition of this one.

This is so lovely, the interaction between father and daughter is priceless. My only wish would have been that his back wasn't turned to us.
