Wow. This one stands out from the crowd simply because of the unusual color. But I suppose that will be its downfall too. Because it isn't typical rust color, people with no vision or imagination will assume it's not relevant. Well, I'm giving top marks because I can find no flaws with the image, and I think it deserves to be featured over some of the ones that are there now.

Thanks uncommondepth. You are 100% dead-on with your predictions. People apparently didn;t "get" this one. It IS most definitely rust, although not typical rust. It is the front of an old blue pickup truck down by Santa Barbara harbor, that is rusting away due to exposure to salt air. Regardless of ratings, this is one of my favorite shots ever, and it has received a ton of positive comments on my photoblog.

It doesn't bring me "down" to much to get a bunch of low ratings from people who didn't feel compelled to provide comments as well. I figure most of the raters of this, excpet for you and Ana, pretty much did it as fast as they could in order to post their own shots, and didn't really look at, or think about the image too much.

So my main point is I appreciate that you left a comment in addition to your rating! Thanks.

Strange, mysterious and off-color. The rusted gap has a Mona Lisa smile. The shallow depth of field adds to the effect.
