For me this image is slightly lost in translation, was there a flash involved?, its just slightly missing something, and I cant lay my hands on what.... I think I want to see more.

Great color and contrast, good composition.

id7 - no flash. It was shot mid-afternoon on a very sunny, clear day. Since this cog (which is about 4m high) faces west, it was getting the full force of the sunlight. I also used a polarizing filter to bring out the blue sky and up the contrast.
