This is going to be one of those subjective type images I bet. You will either see something artistic in it or you won't. Me I think it has a really nice artistic feel but does lack some relevance since the rain isn't "in your face" like many of the other posted images. On a side note I find it sobering how grain really stands out in this digital age. A lot of time I actually think grain adds character to an image but I'm not sure if it does or doesn't with this one. This is an image that I think you were brave to post (because of the subjectiveness of "art") and I like that you stretched the theme a bit and showed your vision.

King: Thanks.
dcreighton: I was pretty sure that this one was a risky picture to post. I do have all kinds of raindrops in stock, which would show the actual rain, but I could see that others had already put them up and to try something different I went for this picture. It was taken out of the windshield of my car in a heavy shower. The blur is the direct result of the rain washing out the details. Thanks very much for sharing your opinion.

@Dan...ah, risky because of potentially low ratings? or potentially negative comments?
I like Peter's statement that he wanted to "try something different." When I first started posting at WeeklyShot, my approach was to be post images that differed from the common stroke. Some folks recognized this but more simply ignored or dismissed my entries, so I learned and started to conform. Sociologists call this "social control."
So bravo, Peter, for resisting social control and posting something different.

@King- I agree entirely. I didn't say risky though I guess I implied it. I meant because it is such a subjective type of image many will either really like it or they won't with few in the middle and I was acknowledging the fact that I realized it was probably a concious decision to post the image knowing that (which he confirmed on a later post).
I think it is great that Phototalk decided to post an image that was so subjective artisticly and went against the flow of the images posted before it. Images of rain drops on windows, umbrellas, etc. After seeing a lot of them already, and a lot of them very well done, the artistic and impressionistic nature of this was enjoyable to me.

Dan...oops. I'm not the first to aim my comment at the wrong poster. I meant to respond to Peter's own remark about "risky." Sorry about that.

@King...I meant risky in the sense that I knew it was quite different compared to the other posts at the time. I'm not bothered too much about low ratings (incidentally, the current rating for this one is 2.372) and I'm used to critical analysis of my work from my day job as journalist. That said, it is always nice when people are positive, but that isn't my primary motivation for posting. If and when I do receive comments (positive or negative) I want them to be sparked by my vision and interpretation.

This reminds me of my narrowboat trip in Wales a few years ago and sets a mood that I like very much.
