Yay! love it.

I love the composition but and not convinced about the selective, isolated color - I think your eye for the subject and framing could easily carry the shot without any PS acrobatics.

talcum said 595 days ago:

great answer to the theme, selective coloring works well

Lovely selective colours.

Ana said 595 days ago:

I like this one. The selective colouring is cool, but I would have liked just ONE phone in red. :)

King said 595 days ago:

You mean those aren't simply red handsets connected to gray phone units?
Help me on this, folks. It seems that most of you expect at least some processing in Photoshop and there is no inherent bias against this...is that correct? If this is true, is it equally true for digital photos or those shot on film then scanned from negatives or prints? Is there a Photoshop ethos that someone can share with me? I hope to become expert in Photoshop, but I use it mainly as a digital darkroom, as I used to use chemicals, light and various manipulations to get the image I want on film or print.

thanks for your comments!
in deed this are only red handsets connected to grey phones. this shot was taken in budapest... even there german t-com is present with their specific kind of red... i did the ck to underline this fact, which is a bit confusing to me.

Flatline said 595 days ago:

Amreicans don't know this, but Deutsche Telekom phones are grey with bright pink handsets. It's their corporate colors.

King, I don't believe there's an expectation of processing, but certainly an acceptance. The source and/or method of image acquisition is sort of irrelevant, because you MUST digitize the image to participate in Weekly Shot. May as well correct or enhance the parts you're not satisfied with.

MartinTaylor said 595 days ago:

King, I think the question of how far to take the post-processing is one every photographer must answer for themselves. Personally, I don't like isolated color, lomo-ize filters, fake tilt and shift, fake film border effects, HDR, etc. but I acknowledge that this is my own prejudice.

@king
here are more t-com phones ;)

cool composition - and great use of color.

King said 594 days ago:

Flatline, thanks for your helpful remarks.
Martin, thanks to you, too. "Tilt" and "shift" are view camera terms. Are you familiar with the view camera?

I understand these phones are naturally red and grey, but are you telling me that no selective desaturation was applied to this photo? Hard to believe, but if so, deserves even higher marks... Surly the walls and grafitti had some color, no?

komma5 said 594 days ago:

@tommy
as i wrote above: this is of course a colourkey (which is selective desaturation), i used it to underline the fact, that german telekom with the specific red colour is everywhere on the world, which is screwing me up a bit.
so don't worry ;)
