the selective colouring of this is very confusing and isn't helping the shot, IMO.

dparsons said 278 days ago:

Sorry you're confused, Ana. But thanks just the same :)

Ana said 278 days ago:

i guess I don't understand how it makes the shot better?

dparsons said 278 days ago:

Actually, Ana, it was an experiment in selective coloring - something I can only recall doing twice before in the past 7 years.

When I finished it, I liked it. And as far as I'm concerned, that's pretty much all that matters lol.

Not that I don't appreciate your critique ;~)

i love this scene. but, for me, the effect is just tacky. sorry

pete said 278 days ago:

huh.. wasnt supposed to come out twice.. oops

dparsons said 278 days ago:

Tacky and confusing. I'm two for two. Thanks. I'll go lick my wounds now ;~)

pete said 278 days ago:

ahh. its a great pose, but, well, as you say, selective colouring (English spelling ;)) only needs to be done in rare situations

Lange said 277 days ago:

A wonderful image. The desaturation and then replacement of some regions with golden tones is quite striking and attractive. The contrast between the gold and grey (silver?) colors is both beautiful and a bit eerie.

dparsons said 277 days ago:

The use of the gold was intentional that color a color of significance in the original shot. I do understand Pete's assessment that selective coloring needs to be done only in certain situations (and obviously not in this one lol) but I'm not afraid to experiment.

Lange, thank you for liking what I've done. I very much appreciate your comment :)

Ana said 277 days ago:

I actually like the thread of colour that runs through this, but the shot becomes just that... the thread of colour, and the content is completely lost.
The people become the secondary subject to the processing.

dparsons said 277 days ago:

Ana, now that you've put it like that, I actually agree 100% :)

dparsons said 277 days ago:

Maybe I should post the original.
Nah.
That would be asking for a double whammy lol :)

mooch said 277 days ago:

Interesting selective desaturation. Highlights the OTT gold presence.

beckn32 said 277 days ago:

A nice look into these two. The color selection makes this a little weird though and I feel distracts from the photo.

flipthom said 277 days ago:

jimmy crack corn, and I don't care because my instruments are made of gold.

flipthom said 277 days ago:

The people have a lot of character but they do seem to get lost in all of the gold...and I think the people are what's more interesting and relevant.
