This shot lacks technique for me. The composition is not great for me - everyone's feet chopped off and a very bright distracting background. Nearly everyone's facing the other direction too, so it lacks interest. It does raise my curiosity - what are they doing, I wonder.

Dave, I'm not sure what "lacks technique" means. Perhaps you prefer the technique of capturing peoples' entire bodies? I'm not sure I share that requirement in a photo, but that's cool. However, I agree that this composition is not without its major problems...like that detached hand coming in from the right.
Cat, they are waiting for the fog (the bright, distracting background), to clear so they can launch their boat at a Dragon Boat race thingy : )

Certainly lots of orange... but it doesn't tell much of a story. At least not one that I understand! I'm sorry. I just see lots of people walking away and one woman (the focus of the picture?) who might have stopped to catch her breath, but might have also been caught in mid-blink... I'm not sure... sorry that I don't get it!

Ah hah, I was hoping to see a comment from the photographer explaining what this is a picture of. I knew it had to be something that I wasn't getting!

However ... I still don't think that this tells me much of a story though, because I can't SEE that it's fog (it looks like blown out sky) and I can't see that they're waiting for anything. Also, because they're all facing away, I (as the viewer) feel very detached from this scene. I think a side view would have been nice (if that were even possible!).

But thanks for explaining. I'm glad to know what these people are doing!

This definately qualifies as orange, but I can't figure out what the picture is about. The woman in the middle seems contemplative and is the most interesting thing in the image, so I would suggest a tighter cropping so you can see her face and expression more clearly.
