Excellent! I find the entire image very odd and slightly unsettling. What kind of fish are they? Why are they on a blue background? Would they go well with an olive tapenade?
jmeagher said 829 days ago:
They are essentially dried anchovies. The Japanese call them Iriko. They would probably work pretty well in a tapenade.
I've used them to make a concentrated soy sauce. You soak them in soy sauce for a couple hours, throw in some dried bonito flakes at the end, heat it up until just before it boils, stir it and then strain out the solids. Makes for a great addition to any grilled food or to spiff up plain rice. Not for the faint of heart or for those who don't like seafood.
They are about 1 - 1.5 inches in length. They are on a blue background to bring out their gold coloration a bit - no other reason.

Woah. This one's bound for glory, me thinks. =) I knew there had to be one in there, but it took me a sec to find him!

Oh wow. I love this one. The colors, composition are fantastic and its thematic relevance is so subtle and creative.

I like this one. I have one almost exactly like it, but the fish are alive and in a tank!

one is facing a diff way, not very compelling...

I love the colors, I normally hate things placed right in the center..But this wouldn't have worked any other way

Jason, what you describe sounds like a Japanese Ceasar Salad dressing. Very tasty, right up my alley. Good shot, btw, I had hoped to see this featured.

I don't get it?

Could this be a selection of that very rare thing, fishus oppositus?
If not then I just don't get it.

Very cool photo. I like the blue (watery) background.
What is opposite about this is very subtle (if I've got it right) - that fish in the center facing in the opposite direction? That took me a while!
