It took me a little bit to even figure out what this was. I don't know if you tried for the dark spot in the middle, but it doesn't really add to the shot.

sharp and soft?? that seems about right.

I think the composition could be a lot stronger, maybe if the razor was actually cutting through the cotton or something else. I think i see the relevance to the theme..But sometimes i'm kinda slow with things like that.

Definitely fits the catagory, without a doubt.

I can see what looks like jpg compression in the dark tones. I think the whole image could have been lightened, but I like the interpretation of the theme and the way the little individual fibers are visible.

These are certainly opposites, but I think you could have been more creative with the lighting and the composition. This just feels too "ordinary" to be memorable.

Looking at the thumbnail, I wasn't sure how this related to the theme of opposites, but in larger view it's very clear that it's about hard & sharp versus soft and fluffy.

I think you could have created something with much more impact though if this was better lit and you increased the contrast.

I also think you might have made the composition more dramatic and eye-catching if you had some contact between the blade and the cotton. It doesn't necessarily have to be piercing the cotton ball, but maybe if it were somehow touching it, it would help them to look like they were meant to be in the same photo together. The way it is now it looks more like you had the concept of blade and the concept of cotton ball and simply put them in the same picture together.

Also, I like the red of the handle. It might be nice to make more use of that to bring some color into the image.

You have certainly nailed the theme here. This is a great set of opposites. I think this could be imporved if the knife was parallel/perpendicular to the edges of the frame. However, congrats on one of the first entries I have come across that is clearly relevant to the theme. Not saying the others aren;t relevant, just that whatever "opposites" they purport to depict are so subtle as to be questionable. That certainly is not the case here ;)

This is defintitely to the point. I like that you kept it simple.

jmeagher said 830 days ago:

I don't cotton to your point.

cferroni said 828 days ago:

Very relevant, but it doesn't work for me. The lighting is flat and I can't find a focal point in the picture. Perhaps some more dramatic lighting would have made this?
