I like it! Subtle, but catching!

First off, I think this is a beautiful image. Secondly, I think this is a terrific one for opposites for two reasons. There is the obvious...the cactus against the snowcapped mountains. And then there is the warm light in the foreground against the deep, rich blue in the background. Well done.

I just wish the fence wasn't there

This certainly fits the theme...great composition.

I really like this juxtaposition. I am wondering where this is. My son is stationed in Arizona. He is at the foot of the mountains and they had snow several weeks ago.

Depending on your background- I suppose you could interpret it as being fenced-in vs free-range OR snow capped and cold vs a hot desert. Maybe a bit of simplification would be a good thing to try.
Nice landscape, I think I'd like to visit there. Lovely sky.

Snow and desert, freedom and fenced in.
Works for me.

This is a really nice shot. Having just gotten back from the desert, lemme tell you - that's some good detail. I could quibble about the fence being in the shot. It goes both ways, I can see the feeling of being kept away from something so beautiful, but I could also love this image without the fence. It's a little over-saturated, but so is that part of the world. The shot pops nicely.
Does the blue in the sky range the way it does due to a polarizer on wide-angle?
Congrats, it's desert classic, even a little cliched. Did you make a nice big print?

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I actually never thought about the fence being part of the opposites theme, but rather the snow against the desert. For those of you who have ever been to the desert, you know that snow is very uncommon and usually only occurs in high areas. It is already in the 90's here, though this was shot several months ago.
The blue is due to polarization. I'm not sure if I agree about the saturation (check the second image to get front page status from "opposites"). It could also be your monitor (perhaps safari?). I'll make a note of it though...thanks for all the input everyone! Very much appreciated.

Nice idea. I'm sure the weather is very different in the foreground than on the top of that faraway peak!
The lighting seems a little weird though... I think your polarizer slipped?

Still trying to figure this one out. When I first looked at it I thought it might be a summer/winter thing, where you took the same photo during different seasons of the year and then blended it together... but after closer inspection that doesn't seem to be the case, so now I'm confused.
Also, the upper-right looks pretty dark... Not sure what purpose it serves.
Interested to see what the other comments say.

Ah... I get it now... Desert vs. snow. I lived in Tucson for nearly a decade and every year there would be snow up on the mountains and cacti down below, so this doesn't seem out of the ordinary at all to me.
In any event, I dig the image.
I'm curious... Where was this?

Yes, I love this shot of the Superstitions Ryan...and this is a rare moment you captured here. Brandon, surprised to read you did not recognized the 'Superstitions'...then again, I've shown images of the Navajo Reservation to my family, relatives and friends and they to did not recognize it's location either.

This is awesome. Upon seeing the thumbnail I didn't see how this was a response to "Opposites." But upon seeing it, it was quite obvious. Very nicely done and well-spotted. I love this kind of shot and it fits the theme beautifully.
