It took me a while to see the relevance, but great idea. While this has a strong message, I feel that the technical side is lacking and there wasn't very high impact, unfortunately...

Another good pun on the theme. Looks like zorilla at work, but I may be wrong. High marks.

the subject of this photo seems to be the man, the bag, the wall, the fact that he's apparently homeless and under a cash box. Yes, he's sitting on the ground, but that's incidental and secondary, to me.

Ana: Sorry to get defensive, but his home is the street "on which we tread".
Where I live it's not possible to contemplate the street without thinking about the people who call it home.

Interesting twist on the theme. I like it, but I think it would have more impact in black and white.
CraigMartin said 238 days ago:
Interesting take - I actually thought that the image, in this context, was suggesting that the homeless are people upon whom society treads, not just that they live on the streets upon which we tread. Either way, very relevant I think.

Ana: I also meant to say I liked the covert irony in this picture.
This is the local branch of my bank so I see this guy almost every day. Before I took took this picture I was chatting to him and asked him why he chose such a confrontational pitch - people are very wary of their personal space, especially around ATM's. His reply to me was, "F*** 'em. If they won't give me anything the least I can do is make 'em feel guilty for getting their hands on their own money."

Nice idea for this theme. Cropped a bit tight on the lower edge, but I still like the overall shot.

sad photo

@zorilla. The theme isn't "covert irony." If it were, I'd jump all over that relevance button.
I'm not an idiot, I realize he lives on the street "on which we tread."
However, as opposed to some of the other photos in this theme, this shot says "homeless man under money machines." Not, "wow, look at that pavement."
King said 238 days ago:
Even better, the theme description leads, "What do you see when you look down?" Do we look down on this person or on his behavior?
This is a highly relevant photo, IMHO.
The Relevance Police are hard at work, I see.

This is an interpretation I considered, but im not sure we tread on the homeless. Its an interesting shot though
Ana said 238 days ago:
The theme description actually reads, "What do you see when you look down? Cracked mud, forest floor, rocks, sidewalk cracks, cobblestones?"
The theme defines surfaces - not people or predicaments and attitudes.
I see the ground under him and realize it's his home, but outside this theme, it's not something I'd mention about this shot. It's powerful, thought provoking and interesting, but it is not as relevant as it could be, if it were taken from ground level with more pavement, or from above, looking down.

I hadnt really considered his proximity to the cashpoint. If I could bump the relevance up a notch thinking that way, I would.

A strategic location for a guy to sit and wait for donations....right beside a pair of cash machines.
