Hi, George. Where ya been? Vazaar?
jbloch said 515 days ago:
Old is relative to your subject. It moves me more on a personal level... not so much from a photo level.

I like the empty chair next to your human subject, but the frame seems unsettled...with the glow you've added, I think a more simplistic composition is called for.

oh, this is an amazing, sweet and wonderful photograph. I love everything about it.
Ana said 515 days ago:
this is my favorite people photo in the theme..... just so you know.

Hi King. I have been at Vazaar, but not much. Just been really busy with a lot of different things. Thanks for your feedback :-)

King, I forgot to reply to your observations. That strange blur is my dismal (and impatient) attempt to clone out some distracting stuff. It's a water fountain. I toyed with cropping closer, and I think you're right: it would have had more WS relevance. I decided not to because I wanted to show him in sitting there alone. Empty chair. Solitary cup. It's a fact of life for many elderly people. Oh and by the way, this guy is waaay older than you. You're a spring chicken man! Anyone who's an FB is definitely a spring chicken!!

Ana, It makes my day that you find this sweet :-) I think *you're* sweet. And I appreciate your support!
Ana said 513 days ago:
oh, NOW I see the water fountain. Ha. didn't even notice that! glad you didn't do any cropping. This is such a great shot...I keep coming back to it. I want to promote it for you!! hee hee.

I wasn't sure about the softness of this image at first, but it really grew on me as did the whole image. It tells a story rather than just shouting 'old'. very nice.
George said 513 days ago:
Ana, I'm glad you keep coming back to it. That's good enough for me!
George said 513 days ago:
Tracy, I'm glad the intention came through for you. It was what I was hoping for. But you're right, it's perhaps a bit too subtle, and maybe needs a little time to come through. A question: I softened most of the image, but not his face, hands, newspaper. Is that evident? Or does it feel like the whole image is soft?
King said 513 days ago:
I know you are asking Tracy, but this is a free country isn't it? I like what you did with the softening and, although is doesn't jump out at one, I recognized it before I rated the image.
I also like the way he's kinda up on his toes. If Mark had taken this photo, he would have talked the old guy into wearing ballet slippers.
George said 513 days ago:
King, you're right dammit. I should always carry ballet slippers with me...just in case.

George, I was going to ask you about the softening because I did notice it. I know you use Picassa for most of your editing, I played with it recently on my sister's computer and was amazed with some of the tools it has (it is not available for my Mac). The blur feature was one that I really got a kick out of and I also recognized it before I rated the image, I liked the effect here.
Now if he had on black ballet slippers the fashion police wouldn't be after him for the dark sock/white runners faux pas.
King is already gearing up for next weekend I see, don't forget to point your toes... :-)))

My little brother! What's that strange blur on the left that becomes sharp just blow my little brother's elbow?
I can't see much justification not to crop a lot closer to the guy, although I think I can see why you cropped it as you did.
Nice light and atmosphere in this photo. Nice hat, sweater and shades. I think this guy has his act together.
High marks in general.
