1671 is pretty damed old. The focus seems to be on the background in this one, which works sometimes, but I think for the might have been better on the brickwork and the lettering. The colours in that seem to be maybe a little washed out too, especially in comparison to the beautiful green of the gardens. Punch that up a little and I think it would help.

You've proved your point. The combination of focus and composition doesn't seem to work for me, but I like the scene and the simple colors.

Thanks for your comments! It's just not a very good photo so even punching up the balustrade wasn't really going to save it. King...you should be happy - I cropped it! What attracted me to the scene in the first place was the garden and its design, but I wanted to incorporate the date and this seemed a way of doing it.

Well done. I like this shot. The balance and focus is just right for me. It's a different perspective that most wouldn't have taken. Nice.

I like the contrast between the cement and the greenery, but I think I would prefer the focus in the foreground rather than the background.
